Inspiring Posters from Communication Arts
Here are some of my favorite posters from the most recent Communication Arts Advertising Annual. I love the Grammy poster's use of type to create an illustration, the clever Photoshop twist in the Minnesota Zoo poster, the rich hand-sketched texture of the Harley poster and the cool blue grace of the Shams-e-Tabrizi Festival poster.

CS5!
CS5 looks like it's going to be one of those "definitely worth it" upgrades. InDesign Secrets takes a look at what's new in InDesign CS5. And Photoshop CS5's content aware brush and content aware fill looks like it's going to take the cake as the best loved new Photoshop feature. Now I just have to wait for it to arrive at our office....

I like the interesting color combinations and textural/decorative elements in Thymes package design.
Book Cover Inspiration: Dark and Light
My favorite in this selection is The Imperfectionists. I like bottom weighted composition and expanse of black space. The high key image and off centered typography in Tinkers are elegantly executed. The suggestion that the most interesting part of the composition is off the frame (Genesis) and the hair silhouette 'O's (A Short History of Women) are also intriguing.
Easy Navigation between Master Pages
Quick tip: To easily navigate between master pages in Indesign, just hit the page up or page down keys. Even though the master pages don't appear connected, they are! (On a regular page when you zoom out you see the previous and next pages—it's not like that in master pages.)
