Subtle Patterns for Websites
Subtle Patterns has a collection of free high quality patterns for website backgrounds. The patterns are mostly monochromatic but you can add your own color overlay in Photoshop as desired. The best feature of this site: click the Preview button on any pattern and the pattern will test live—filling the page.
Web Inspiration: Variety
Here are a few beautiful, interesting or well-organized website designs that have inspired me lately:
Ennea Sportswear does a great job creating a natural look with interesting textures and elements. I love their logo tab.
Silicon Prairie News is beautifully organized. The floating boxes, subtle color scheme and good use of white space add up to a comfortable and elegant reading experience.
Emily Steffen Photography is stylish in its restraint. My favorite things about this design are the small touches of yellow and shaggy gray page border.
I love Hibiscus Creative's bold use of color and typography. The gray and blue vintage plant art and background add balance and texture.
Prana's Beautiful Footer
I love this oversized footer on Prana's website. The design is subtle and artsy and calming.
Dagoba Chocolate
I like the bright and natural look of Dagoba's website. There are lots of special touches that make this website sweet: the little waving leaves on the right margin, the vintage plant sketches, the rough edges on the textured paper border, the beautiful central photograph.
White Rabbit Studios
White Rabbit Studios: an interesting vintage-style website design with a realistic lace background and appropriate typography.

Web Inspiration: Color
Color is a powerful weapon in the arsenal of a designer. It sets the mood and tone of a design and holds the design together. Colors can have strong conscious and unconscious associations which allows a designer to convey complicated ideas and concepts simply by choosing the right colors.
I like these website color schemes for different reasons: the charming whimsy of the apple green with the multi colored tights, the conservative variety in the navy and tan, and the rich warmth of the earth tones.
